There’s something magical about a slow morning. It’s the one time when I can take a deep breath, reconnect with myself, and simply enjoy the present moment. No rushing, no alarms—just quiet moments that help me reset before the day begins.
Because I work Monday through Friday and wake up early every morning, I truly cherish my weekends. Rather than jumping straight into the day, I love easing into it with simple rituals that leave me feeling calm, happy, and recharged. These peaceful mornings remind me that happiness is often found in the little things.
For me, slow living isn’t about doing less—it’s about being more intentional. Whether it’s making fresh celery juice, going for a walk, enjoying a nourishing breakfast, or getting ready without feeling rushed, these small habits help me feel grounded and ready for whatever the day brings.
If you’re looking for inspiration to create your own cozy slow morning routine, here’s exactly what my perfect day off looks like. I hope it encourages you to embrace a slower pace and create a morning you’ll genuinely look forward to.
1. Wake Up Naturally
One of my favorite things about having a day off is waking up naturally. During the week, my mornings always start with an alarm. Maybe you know the feeling—sometimes you’re lucky enough to wake up a few minutes before it goes off, but other mornings the alarm pulls you out of a deep sleep. That’s why I appreciate my weekends even more, when I can simply wake up because my body has had enough rest.
Instead of getting out of bed straight away, I like to stay under the blankets for a few extra minutes. I take a deep breath, enjoy the quiet, and let myself wake up slowly. There’s something so comforting about knowing I don’t have to rush anywhere.
Before I get up, I spend a moment thinking about what I’m grateful for. Sometimes it’s something big, and other times it’s simply my health, my family, a sunny morning, or the fact that I have the whole day ahead of me.
For me, this little ritual sets the tone for the rest of the day. It helps me start my morning with gratitude before I get up and continue with the rest of my slow morning routine.
2. Make Fresh Celery Juice
After getting out of bed, I head straight to the kitchen to make one of my favorite morning rituals—fresh celery juice. Using my juicer, I prepare about half a liter, which I always drink before breakfast or coffee.
I’ve been drinking celery juice for quite a while now, and it’s a habit I genuinely enjoy. It feels refreshing, helps me hydrate first thing in the morning, and is a simple way to add more vegetables to my routine. I also love that it’s naturally rich in vitamins and antioxidants, making it a healthy start to the day.
Once my celery juice is ready, I take it to my little reading corner. I sit there for a few quiet minutes, enjoy every sip, and this is usually when I open my journal and begin writing.
3. Journal for a Few Minutes
While I enjoy my celery juice, I like to spend a few quiet minutes journaling. It’s one of my favorite parts of the morning because it gives me a chance to slow down before the day really begins.
When I first started journaling, I honestly never knew what to write. But over time, I realized there are no rules. Every morning, I usually write down a few things I’m grateful for, my goals for the day, or simply whatever is on my mind. Sometimes I even write about a dream I had the night before if I don’t want to forget it.
Some mornings it’s only a few sentences, while other days I fill an entire page. For me, journaling is the perfect way to clear my mind, organize my thoughts, and start the day with a positive mindset.
If you’re new to journaling, don’t worry if you don’t know where to begin. I’ve included a few of my favorite journal prompts below to help you get started.
4. Go for a Morning Walk
By now, you’ve probably heard it everywhere—10,000 steps a day. It seems like everyone recommends it, but if you’re working full-time, you also know that it isn’t always realistic. I’ll be honest: I don’t reach 10,000 steps every single day. After work, I’m often tired, and sometimes I simply don’t have the energy for another walk.
That’s exactly why I love my days off. I enjoy heading outside first thing in the morning when everything is still quiet. Most of the time, I’ll listen to music or a podcast, but I always make sure to spend at least ten minutes without my headphones. There’s something so calming about listening to the birds, the wind in the trees, and simply being present in nature.
Whenever I can, I love walking through the forest. For me, there’s no better feeling than knowing I’ve already moved my body before the day has even really begun. I always come home feeling refreshed, energized, and ready to enjoy the rest of my slow morning.
5. Do 15 Minutes of Yoga & Stretching
After my walk, the first thing I do is drink a big glass of water before rolling out my yoga mat. I usually put on a short YouTube yoga or stretching video and spend about 15 minutes moving my body gently.
For me, it’s the perfect way to finish my morning walk. Stretching helps release any tension, improves my flexibility, and makes my body feel lighter. I also notice that I’m much more relaxed afterward, both physically and mentally.
One of my favorite parts is the short relaxation at the end of the video. Taking a few deep breaths and lying still for a minute or two always leaves me feeling completely refreshed. It’s such a small habit, but it makes a big difference and helps me start the day feeling calm, energized, and ready for whatever comes next.
6. Take a Relaxing Bath
After my yoga session, I head straight to the bathroom and run myself a warm bath. It’s one of my favorite parts of my slow morning. During the week, I don’t always have the time to enjoy a long bath, which makes it feel even more special on my days off.
I usually use this time for all the little self-care rituals that I often skip during a busy week—body scrub, shaving, a face mask, or simply lying back and relaxing for a while. For me, it’s not about looking perfect; it’s about feeling good and showing my body a little extra love.
One thing I always remind myself is that my body is my home, and it deserves to be cared for with kindness. Taking this time for myself helps me feel refreshed, confident, and ready for the rest of the day.

7. Enjoy a Healthy Breakfast & Coffee
If you ask me, breakfast is the best meal of the day. It’s probably the part of my slow morning that I look forward to the most. During the week, I usually don’t eat breakfast at home because I wake up so early. Instead, I prepare it in a lunchbox and eat it later at work.
But let’s be honest—it just isn’t the same. There’s something so special about making breakfast fresh and enjoying it right away without having to pack it up or wait hours before eating it.
On my days off, I take my time and prepare whatever I’m craving that morning. Some days it’s soft-boiled eggs with fresh vegetables and sourdough bread, other days it’s a bowl of oatmeal with fruit, Greek yogurt with berries, or even a fresh bread roll from the local bakery.
I love putting together a balanced breakfast with plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, protein, and, of course, a good cup of coffee. It keeps me full for hours, and sometimes I’m not even hungry again until late in the afternoon. For me, there’s simply no better way to start a relaxing weekend.
8. Get Ready for the Day
What this part of my morning looks like always depends on my plans. Some weekends I spend the whole day at home, while on others I meet friends, visit my favorite café, go shopping, or simply enjoy being out and about. But whenever I’m heading out, I love taking my time to get ready.
I usually put on one of my favorite playlists, do my makeup, style my hair, and choose an outfit that makes me feel comfortable and confident. It’s one of those little rituals that instantly puts me in a good mood and makes the day feel a little more special.
Of course, not every day looks the same. Sometimes I stay in cozy clothes all day or don’t leave the house until the evening—and that’s perfectly okay too. For me, slow living isn’t about following a perfect routine every weekend. It’s about listening to what I need that day.
Before I leave the house, I always pack my handbag with everything I need and fill up my reusable water bottle. It might seem like a small thing, but it helps me feel organized and ready for whatever the day brings.
I’ve realized that when I make an effort for myself, my whole mood changes. It isn’t about dressing up for other people—it’s about feeling good in my own skin and making the most of whatever the day brings.
9. Protect the Slow Feeling
No matter what I have planned for the rest of the day, I always try to hold on to the peaceful feeling I’ve created during my slow morning. For me, that’s what this whole routine is really about.
Of course, not every day goes exactly as planned, but I try not to rush or let little things stress me out. Instead, I remind myself to slow down, enjoy the present moment, and appreciate the little things that make the day special.
I don’t want my slow morning to end the moment I leave the house—I want that calm feeling to stay with me for as long as possible. And honestly, that’s what makes my days off feel so refreshing.
Why I Love Slow Mornings
Slow mornings have become one of my favorite weekend rituals. They help me slow down, recharge, and appreciate the little moments that are so easy to overlook during a busy week.
Of course, not every morning looks the same, and I don’t always follow this routine perfectly. I simply do what feels right that day—and I think that’s what slow living is really about.
I hope this post inspires you to create your own slow morning routine and fill it with little rituals that make you happy. After all, the best mornings are the ones that leave you feeling calm, grateful, and excited for the day ahead.
