Long, healthy hair has been one of my biggest beauty goals for as long as I can remember. Ever since I was a teenager, I’ve loved learning about hair care. I watched YouTube videos, read articles and tested different routines, always hoping to keep my hair as healthy as possible. Looking back, I never found one miracle product. Instead, I found something much more valuable: small habits that I’ve repeated consistently for years.

When I was around fifteen, I completely bleached my hair. I loved the color, but my hair became dry, fragile and difficult to manage. It took years to recover, and that experience completely changed the way I care for my hair today.
I’ve naturally always had quite thick hair, so genetics certainly play a role. Everything in this article is simply based on my own experience, and these are the habits that have helped me maintain long, healthy hair over the past ten years.

1. Rosemary Has Been My Biggest Hair Care Game Changer
If I had to choose one habit that has stayed with me throughout my entire hair journey, it would be rosemary. I discovered rosemary when I was around sixteen years old and have used it ever since. Whenever I can, I cut fresh rosemary from our garden and make my own rosemary oil and rosemary water instead of buying expensive products.
Preparing it myself has become one of my favorite little rituals. It gets me outside, slows me down and reminds me that some of the best things are often the simplest.
I can’t say rosemary is the reason I have healthy hair, but I truly believe it has played an important role in helping me maintain thick, healthy and strong hair over the years.

2. Daily Scalp Massage
This habit actually started because of a YouTube video. A woman talked about how relaxing daily scalp massages were, so I decided to try them myself. Now I spend about five minutes massaging my scalp almost every day.
Besides feeling incredibly relaxing, scalp massages may help support circulation around the scalp. Whether they directly affect hair growth is difficult to say, but they’ve become one of my favorite self-care rituals because they’re simple, calming and easy to stay consistent with.
I usually use a scalp massager instead of just my fingertips because I find it much more relaxing and comfortable. It’s become one of my favorite little self-care tools, and I use it almost every day.

3. Celery Juice Every Morning
Almost every morning, I make myself half a liter of fresh celery juice. I know this might sound a little funny, but whenever I drink it consistently, I honestly feel like I’m drinking electricity. That’s simply the best way I can describe it. I feel more awake, more energized and ready to start my day.
Besides celery juice, I also love making other fresh juices with ingredients like carrots, cucumber, ginger and lemon. Fresh juicing has become one of my favorite healthy habits and an easy way to include more fruits and vegetables in my day. Do I think fresh juice alone creates healthy hair? Definitely not. But I do believe healthy hair starts from within, and taking care of my body has become just as important to me as taking care of my hair.

4. Nutrition Matters More Than Most People Think
I try to eat a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables every day. Whenever possible, I also enjoy eating produce from our own garden and adding wild herbs like nettle or dandelion to my smoothies.
I’m definitely not perfect, but I believe consistently nourishing your body can support healthy hair over time.
5. I Never Brush Soaking Wet Hair
This is probably the habit I’m strictest about. Wet hair is much more delicate, so I always wait until it’s around 80% dry before brushing it. It’s a simple change, but I honestly think it has prevented a lot of unnecessary breakage over the years.

6. I Avoid Tight Hairstyles
I love how sleek hairstyles look on Pinterest and TikTok, but I don’t wear them. Instead, I prefer loose braids, soft scrunchies and claw clips because they’re much gentler on my hair and scalp. Not only are they more comfortable to wear, but they also help reduce unnecessary tension on my hair throughout the day.
Whenever I tie my hair up, I almost always reach for a silk scrunchie. I find them much gentler than regular hair ties, and they’ve become a small but important part of my everyday hair care routine.
For me, protecting my hair has never been about following every trend—it’s about choosing styles that keep it healthy in the long run.

7. I Minimize Heat Whenever Possible
I let my hair air dry until it’s about 80% dry before using a blow dryer, and when I do, I always use a warm to cool temperature instead of very high heat. I also rarely use curling irons or straighteners. Instead, I create heatless curls almost every night. Before wrapping my hair, I apply a few drops of hair oil to my ends and lightly dampen my hair, usually with my homemade rosemary water. By the next morning, I wake up with soft, natural curls without exposing my hair to unnecessary heat damage.
It’s a simple habit that has become part of my nightly routine, and I honestly can’t imagine my hair care routine without it anymore.

8. Regular Trims
Many people think that if you want long hair, you should never cut it. I completely understand why, because it seems logical to just let it grow. But in my experience, regular trims are actually one of the most important habits for growing long, healthy hair. They remove split ends before they can travel further up the hair shaft and cause even more damage. While trimming your hair won’t make it grow faster, it helps keep your ends healthy, soft and full.
For me, healthy ends are much more important than holding on to every last centimetre. In the long run, regular trims have actually helped my hair grow longer while still looking thick and healthy.
9. Supplements
Another habit that’s become part of my daily routine is taking supplements.
I currently take supplements such as Vitamin B12, Zinc, Propolis Pure and Cat´s Claw as part of my overall healthy lifestyle. Every morning, I take my liquid supplements with a freshly squeezed glass of orange juice—it’s become one of my favorite little morning rituals.

I don’t see supplements as a replacement for a balanced diet. For me, they’re simply an addition to an already healthy lifestyle.
The capsule supplements I’m currently taking are Magnesium Glycinate and Curcumin.

Of course, everyone’s needs are different, so it’s always a good idea to speak with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplements.

10. Consistency Is Everything
If there’s one thing I’ve learned throughout my hair journey, it’s that consistency will always beat perfection. People often ask me if there’s one secret to healthy hair, but I honestly don’t think there is. For me, it’s all the small habits I’ve repeated over the years—making my own rosemary oil, drinking celery juice, being gentle with my hair and choosing healthy routines that I genuinely enjoy.
None of these habits are complicated on their own, but together they’ve become my lifestyle.
Healthy hair isn’t built overnight. It’s built through hundreds of small choices, a little patience and the habits you continue to show up for every single day.
